Housing - 2019

Women are more reliant on housing assistance and services because of violence, economic disadvantage and caring responsibilities. Shortcomings, gaps and failings in these systems disproportionately impact on women. For example, women make up 62.2% of the 416,640 single people who remain in housing stress after receipt of Commonwealth Rent Assistance (CRA).

NFAW submission to the Senate Committee on affordable housing

The last ten years has seen a continual increase in the number and proportion of people who are homeless or living in marginal housing. Private renters, single-person households under the age of 65 and low-income home purchasers experience housing affordability stress most acutely.

The National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW) would like to acknowledge and pay its respects to the Traditional Custodians of Country and recognise their connection throughout time to its lands, seas, skies and waters of which we live, work and benefit from today. NFAW would like to pay respect to the Elders, past and present, and extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people visiting our page.
