Aims and structure

Aims

The National Foundation for Australian Women is dedicated to promoting and protecting the interests of Australian women and ensuring that the aims and ideals of the women’s movement and its collective wisdom are handed on to new generations of women. More details are available in the NFAW Constitution

Objectives

  1. To ensure that the aims and ideals of the Women's Movement and its collective wisdom are handed on to new generations of women;
  2. To advance and protect the interests of Australian women in all spheres, including intellectual, cultural, political, social, economic, legal, industrial and domestic spheres.

Achieving the objectives

  1. promoting and encouraging discussion and debate on all issues pertinent to the advancement of women;
  2. promoting research and the collection, evaluation, dissemination and interchange of information and other material relevant to issues of pertinence to women;
  3. supplying groups within the broad Women's Movement with information which is strategic for advancing the interests of women;
  4. linking and improving communication between women's organisations including immigrant and Aboriginal women's organisations;
  5. monitoring and from time to time reporting on, the situation of women;
  6. providing financial and other assistance and encouragement to specific studies, research, conference, seminars or other means of studying issues and sharing knowledge to advance the interests of women;
  7. sponsoring or contributing towards lectures, scholarships, prizes or other awards, or contributions advancing the interests of women;
  8. co-operating with and promoting co-operation among persons, trusts, corporations, institutions, governments and other bodies in Australia or elsewhere to advance the interests of women;
  9. encouraging the availability of or producing or making available whether by sale or otherwise, things and materials, including books, monographs periodicals, pamphlets lectures, films and the means and products of electronic communication which further the objects of the Company; and
  10. generally taking any other action as is or may be appropriate for advancing the interests of Australian women.
