Just heard on the news that ACT Labor is promising to start with 18 weeks PML for mothers and 2 weeks for the other parent in July 2009 if they are elected. As far as I can tell, this means that if the Federal Government's proposed scheme goes ahead as discussed in the draft report women employed by the ACT government will end up with 36 weeks, and 4 weeks for the other parent. Page 2.11 of the draft report states that Our view is that most employers will keep their existing programs to ensure they remain 'employers of choice'. The other nice thing is that the ACT Libs have backed the plan.
